Curative brought the Wet Paint movement to China, staging an experiential graffiti show across a preserved tri-level building in Shanghai's Old Docks district.
Curative took over a historically preserved building in the rejuvenated Old Docks neighborhood of Shanghai and built a show inside its 8,000-plus square foot, tri-level space. The concept referenced the 149th St & Grand Concourse subway station of the 1980s, home to the Writer's Bench where graffiti writers gathered to trade ideas, and the trains that carried their work across the city.
The show presented original canvases by Persue alongside more than 50 authentic Wet Paint signs made by various artists, plus life-sized sculptures, oversized inflatables, a neon wall, and live graffiti painted on site by Persue1 and WaneCOD. The basement was turned into a BunnyKitty disco.
Curative conceived and produced the exhibition: securing and taking over the historic venue, curating the works and participating artists, and building out all three levels, including the basement disco.
