Larry Loud

Greg Mike’s Larry Loud stepped off the wall and into objects: a ten-foot sculpture and two vinyl figures for the artist’s “Chapter New” show at ABV Gallery. The character is his. Curative built the pieces.

The character

Larry Loud is Greg Mike’s wide-mouthed, big-toothed character, a fixture of the Atlanta artist’s murals and gallery work. For “Chapter New” at ABV Gallery, Greg Mike’s own Atlanta space, in 2021, the character came off the wall and into three dimensions.

The objects

The centerpiece was a ten-foot sculpture of Larry Loud, scaled up to fill the room, joined by two vinyl figures that brought the same character down to collectible size. Together they let the show read at two registers at once, the monumental and the ownable.

What Curative did

The character and the show are Greg Mike’s. Curative built the pieces, producing the ten-foot sculpture and the two vinyl figures for the artist. It is the foundry relationship at the center of the artists wing: the artist keeps the world he made, and Curative makes it stand.
